Demo 1.0 out

demo_1.0

Changelog:

  • Finished all player attack animations
  • Added a cheat item to extend reaction time during combat
  • Removed the "sides" combat aspect
  • Moved default rendering to OpenGL as some people were unable to launch the game with Vulkan rendering
  • Now with screenshake.

Now that im satisfied with the demo, I will begin working on the full game. From here on out I will post new versions on patreon.  My plan is to map out the entire game - all levels, characters, quests, etc., using placeholder sketches, and then replace it with polished art. The way i see it is, by doing so instead of incrementally adding finished content, I will be able to:

  1. Have a more uniform end-product visual style, as all art polishing will be done in one swoop at the end.
  2. See how the whole experience will flow in terms of story progression and pacing.
  3. Avoid one of the aspects of development hell that is addition of extra unplanned content as time goes on.

The only negative I see is that, after reaching the polishing stage, the amount of repetative art work will weigh my motivation down and slow development to a crawl, as it has happened with attack animations in the past few months. I could hire an artist to help out, especially with H-scenes, but my current budget doesnt allow that. My hope is that the experience I got up until now, as well as knowing exactly how many placeholders I have to replace to finish, will ease that stage of development.
